Vidhi van Manen -English-

Allow me to introduce myself!

I am Vidhi, British, but living in Amsterdam with my husband and two children since 2011. I have been working as a dietitian at De Zoete Appel since 2017.

My sessions are Tuesdays and Thursdays at location Westerpark, Van der Hoopstraat and on Mondays at location Watergraafsmeer, Linnaeuskade.

I can carry out consultations in Dutch or English. I also understand Hindi.

For me, every trajectory (or one-off consultation) with a client is a new blank canvas. It begins with a good conversation about individual expectations, motivations and wishes. Together we look at how the current diet and lifestyle may be adjusted or optimised in order to achieve the health goals.

I have knowledge of various food cultures, including the Indian culture that I myself was brought up with. At home I encounter the same challenges as many others in our current society: how to produce yummy, varied and nutritious meals within the bustle of work and home life. I try to inspire my children to understand what they are eating but also to enjoy the variation.

I provide dietary advice for – among others - type 2 diabetes, overweight and obesity, cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal symptoms and underweight and malnourishment.
I am specialised or specialising in the following areas:
-      Paediatric/ children’s dietetics, incl. flattening or falling growth curves, critical eaters, intestinal problems (e.g. toddler’s diarrhoea, constipation), cow milk allergy, autism
-      Pregnancy, conception incl. gestational diabetes, PCOS
-      Food intolerances, incl. FODMaPs, cross-allergy and elimination and provocation of suspected allergens

I am registered in the Kwaliteitsregister Paramedici, number 19102186789.

I am member of Diëtisten Cooperatie Nederland (DCN), aspiring member of Nederlandse Vereniging voor Kinderdiëtisten (NKD) and Diëtisten voor Verstandelijk Gehandicapten (DVG), and member of Stichting Voedselallergie.

I have completed the post-HBO Children’s dietetics and the post-HBO diabetes, as well as specialist courses on food intolerances and autism.

Professional background

Both my Masters in Cognitive Science, followed by my work as a manager of a nursing home inspired me to learn more about the relationship between food and health. I completed the degree Nutrition and Dietietics at The Hague University (THUAS). I have clinical experience at the Juliana Children’s Hospital and have carried out research on client-dietitian understanding.

My work as a dietitian is characterised by referring to the latest scientific evidence on nutrition and dietetics, and I like to share these insights where I can with my clients.
